Robert “Rob” Reiner was an acclaimed American filmmaker, actor, and political activist whose career has left a lasting mark on American cinema and television.He first gained fame as an actor portraying Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family. Transitioning behind the camera, Reiner became one of Hollywood’s most successful directors, helming beloved and influential films including This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Known for his versatility across comedy, drama, and romance, Reiner has earned multiple Academy Award nominations and widespread critical acclaim.
Beyond entertainment, he is recognized for his civic engagement and advocacy. Reiner’s legacy is defined by storytelling that blends heart, humor, and humanity, securing his place as one of the most respected figures in modern film history.
He was also a co-founder of Castle Rock Entertainment and a political activist. On December 14, 2025, Reiner and his wife Michele were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
